4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 NKJV
At any point in time, you can ask a friend or family member about the things they currently would like to have and chances are they could give you a list off the top of their heads a mile long. That list may include the newest phone, a nicer car, a fancy vacation, and more. While all that sounds nice and like something a lot of us would like to have, chances are none of those things are what we truly desire deep down.
The true deep desires of your heart may include meeting the one you’re supposed to marry, mending that broken relationship with a family member, or being healed from a sickness that would only be possible through the grace of God. To search even deeper, you may desire to have a close and meaningful relationship with Christ. So many of us wake up everyday trusting that your alarm clock will wake you up for work on time or that your car will start so you can go about your daily travels. Yet, we question and even doubt that the all powerful, all knowing, merciful, miracle working God of our lives hears our prayers or knows the deepest desires of our hearts. Often times too we don’t even open our hearts and tell God about our deepest desires due to the doubt that we’ll get what we want.
So many of us, including myself, fall for the lie of thinking we’ll never get what our heart truly desires. Scripture tells us in Psalm 37:4 that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, he’ll give us the desires of our heart. Don’t be mistaken, just because you may desire to win the lottery does not mean the Lord will allow that to happen. Often you’ll find though that when you prioritize God in every area of your life, living to glorify Him and to do work for the Heavenly Kingdom, our God will show up and show out in your life. Let Him know of your deepest, most genuine desires of your heart. Truly believe that He will bless you with what you ask for. Even if He does not give you exactly what you ask for, He will realign your own thinking and show you that what He wants for you is far better than what you even knew to ask for.
Do not be afraid to pray honestly. Do not be afraid to pray boldly. Talk to God about the real desires of your heart and give Him time to work in your life. Most importantly, have faith in your prayers and trust that our God is behind the scenes working in your life. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you so much for who you are and what you do for us on a daily basis. Thank you for listening to every prayer, whether its prayed with tears that are either happy or sad. Please work in our hearts and give us the desire to seek you and to grow closer to you. Give us the courage to talk to you about our deepest desires. Help us to have faith that no matter the prayer, big or small, that you’ll hear us and allow us to feel your presence. Help us to have unwavering faith in who you are and how you work in our lives. Please forgive us of our sins and falling short of your glory daily. As always, it’s in your name we pray, amen.
