Our Power is in Christ

09APR24

9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all more gladly of my weakness, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (ESV)

We live in a world that praises self love, but sometimes to a fault. It is good to believe in yourself, have confidence, and to be sure in your abilities. But it is also important to note that everything we have is a gift from God. We were not designed to be able to endure the stressors and hardships of the world all alone. We are meant to depend on Christ. If you take a look at the current state of affairs, you see a vast majority of the world living for themselves, and the results are not favorable.

In Revelation, Jesus gives his comments in a letter to the Church in Philadelphia. In verse eight of chapter three it says, “I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word, and have not denied my name.”

This is not an insult against the members of the Church, but instead a compliment. Because they have little strength of their own, all of their strength comes from Jesus, therefore they are fruitful. Dr. David Jeremiah put it nicely when he said, “it is when you have big strength, and it is all your own, that you have a problem”.

Our world is full of people who have big strength but it is all their own. The only way we find true peace and purpose in life is when our strength is in Jesus.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I come before you with little strength of my own and relying solely on you. I know your strength is more then I could ever need. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
