Search Me O God

02APR24

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!

24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)

The above verses are taken from a Psalm of David. Just as many Psalms by David, we see the emotion behind his words as he is crying out to God. These are some powerful words, asking God to search him, his heart and thoughts, and see if there is any grievous ways. Grievous here is can be translated to “of great gravity”, “shocking or cruel”.

For those of us who know Christ, how often do we honestly speak to God like this?

Do we want to be Christians on Sunday in church, but live a different life throughout the week? Or, do we want our hearts to be searched and even our thoughts transformed, so that we can glorify God in all we say and do?

Accepting Jesus as your Savior is the starting point, but sanctification is a life long process. We should not just claim to be Christians, but our actions and words, our heart and our thoughts should reflect that also.

Prayer: Dear Lord, give us the strength to come before you in prayer with honest emotion and reverence. May you search our hearts and transform us so that we can continue to grow in your image. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
