8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this in not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10 (ESV)

Have you ever heard someone say, nothing else matters as long as I am a good person? Or, if there is a God, he would just want us to be a good person.

The reality is, our “good works” will never make us righteous, and being “good” is not enough. We are not good people, we are humans that are broken. We stumble, we fall short, and we make mistakes. The only way we are saved, is through our faith in Jesus Christ.

It does not matter how many good works we compile, if our heart does not know the Savior. We are not saved by good works, but instead for good works.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for giving us the gift of salvation through our faith in Jesus. May we never forget we are not capable of being good apart from with you. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
