28MAR24

26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat ; this is my body”. 27 And he took a cup, and when given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Matthew 26:26-29 (ESV)
Maundy Thursday reminds us of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples as well as breaking bread at the Last Supper. These acts show us Christs love, and display to us the importance of humility, and serving one another.
The Last Supper was a very important moment in Jesus’ ministry as it once again foreshadowed his sacrifice on the cross and the giving of His body for our salvation. It also instituted the new covenant between God and humanity as well as the practice of Communion.
Next time we partake of Communion, may it not be something we do lightly, in an attempt to just get though the service, but may truly reflect on the blood shed, and the body of Christ sacrificed so that we may have life everlasting.
Prayer: Dear Lord, as we reflect on Maundy Thursday, may we not forget the humble acts of love Jesus displayed by washing the feet of his disciples. Guide us, and help us learn from this so that we can serve with humility and love as well. And Lord may we never forget the sacrifice Jesus made, for it is the cornerstone of our faith, and the food that gives us life everlasting. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
