No One Knows The Day and Hour

26MAR24

36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. 37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. 42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Matthew 24:36-44 (ESV)

As a continuation of our Holy Week studies, we are diving into Matthew 24 where Jesus is telling his disciples about his second coming. It states in verse 36, “But concerning that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.”

Are we living each day as if Jesus could come back tomorrow?

As Dr. David Jeremiah would say, Are we “rapture ready”?

This week we hear the good news of the gospel, which is the bedrock of Christianity. We know that through the blood of Jesus, and the sacrifice He made on the cross, that if we put our faith in him, we can have everlasting life.

If we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, this truth should change how we live, not just this week, or this season, but each and every single day. Our actions should be glorifying to God.

When faced with a decision on how you should act, think about it this way. Ask yourself, “If Jesus came back right now, and this is what I am doing, would I be embarrassed and ashamed? If the answer to that question is yes, than that action should not be for you.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the blood of Jesus, and the sacrifice He made on the cross, so that as broken as we are, we still have salvation. I pray that I never forget this truth and that it would continue to shape and change the way I talk and act, so that I am always ready for Your return. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
