RANKED: Vinyl Theatre’s Best Songs

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m an obsessive list maker. So today I introduce RANKED, a new series on this blog that allows me to share some of my favorite things in the world of music and movies.

For the first entry into this series, I couldn’t think of a better way to start than by sharing my top five favorite songs by Vinyl Theatre.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing and meeting these guys twice this year and they have honestly grown to become one of my favorite bands of all time (yes, there’s a list of those too). So today, for the first time, here is RANKED.

Honorable Mentions: Done With These Days, Masterpiece, Speak My Mind, Creature of Love, Wild and Young

5. Summer

Summer begins this list is the only song off the band’s debut record, Electrogram. It’s got a strong beat via Nick Cesarz’s strong bass drum and benefits from being one of the easiest songs in VT’s discography to jump around to at a live show.

4. Our Song

The lead single from the band’s latest (and best) album, Starcruiser, quickly found itself in my favorite songs. Our Song sets itself as a battle cry for this new wave of independence and success that the band has found itself in, and it makes me happy to see them produce content you can tell they genuinely love.

3. Day In Day Out

This was my favorite VT for a long time. The guitar solo is just amazing and provides lead vocalist/guitarist Keegan Calmes with an opportunity to shine beyond his stellar vocals.

2. Me, Myself, and I

This Heathens-esque bop has become a staple of the band’s setlist as they stepped out of the shadow of Fueled By Ramen. It’s a more mature sound than Origami, and you can tell that this one really influenced their newest record.

1. Hold Me Down

This is not only, in my opinion, the best song that Vinyl Theatre has created but also one of the best songs of 2018. The bridge reads “wake up, don’t cry, learn how to get by” has sort of consoled me on more than a handful of bad days. VT stepped up the lyrical content with Starcruiser and Hold Me Down is the perfect showcase for that.

So there’s the first episode of RANKED! I hope you enjoyed my take on some of my favorite songs by a band that not only created one of the best albums of 2018. Give all of these songs a listen or two (or 100) on the streaming service of your choice and feel free to pick up some of their merch via vinyltheatre.com!
